The good Samaritan law

If you pass by an accident or if you’re involved in an emergency situation then you might be tempted to help the people in danger. However, even if you do have good intentions and you really want to help the person in need, if you are not a qualified specialist you might end up doing them more harm than good. If somebody is in cardiac arrest and if you use CPR or a portable defibrillator in-accordingly you might end up actually killing that person. However, some states have passed the good Samaritan law which states that people which want to help the victims of an accident cannot be placed under charge for any offence, because they acted out of the will to do a good deed. This law was issued to protect the people which willingly offer their help to victims. If this law was not in place, and good Samaritans risked getting in prison because of their ineffective actions while trying to same somebody elses life, then a lot fewer people would offer their help in case of emergencies due to the fact that they don’t want to risk being charged by the police later on. All in all the good Samaritan law helps people save much more lives than compared to the opposite scenario where helpers could get in trouble for not doing the right thing.

Travelling from anywhere in the western countries towards the developing ones in the est is always a heck of an adventure. It’s going back in time with 50 years every 1000 miles you travel. There are so many differences that its difficult to consciously notice them all. First the highways start disappearing, then the roads become filled with potholes and you start noticing horses and carriages in the traffic. During the night you notice the that the outside lighting it noticeable dimmer. Everything is dark and you can actually see the stars. People get more simple, but strangely they get more and more friendly. It seems that the poorer the country, the friendlier the people are. This sort of changes makes you really wonder if prosperity helps people get more happy or not. The latter option seems the one which is more likely at first glance.

Other things that changes are the peoples diets. In developing countries, few can afford to make the daily shopping at the supermarket in order to get food. Most of the people grow their own food and in most cases they do so in an organic fashion using no genetically modified seed, not chemical fertilizers or poisonous insecticides. However, developing countries lack severely in basic conditions such as health care, schooling and infrastructure. Many parents don’t have enough money to send their children to schools so they remain uneducated, hopelessly tied to the way of life. But despite all the hardship, statistically speaking, more people declare themselves to be happy in developing countries compared to the western ones.
